Mat Forming Machine Introduction


The working principle of the particleboard (or OSB) laying machine is to evenly lay the glued particleboard into a board blank according to the preset thickness, density and direction. The core lies in layer-by-layer control, uniform distribution and directional arrangement.

General Workflow (Taking Multi-layer Directional Paving as an Example)

Raw material preparation

After drying and sizing, the wood shavings are separated into surface material (slender) and core layer material (coarse 

and short) through vibrating screens and stored respectively in silos.

Layered paving

The laying machine lays layers in the sequence of "surface layer → core layer → surface layer", and each layer is completed through an independent laying unit.

Directional control

The surface wood shavings are arranged longitudinally by mechanical or air flow guidance, while the core layer wood shavings are arranged laterally or randomly.

Slab forming

The loose slabs after paving are initially compacted by a pre-press and then sent to a hot press for curing

  1. Distribution of shavings

The wood shavings in the silo are conveyed to the high-speed rotating throwing roller (with a rotational speed of 500 to 1500 rpm) by the metering belt.

  2. Centrifugal throwing

The blades on the throwing roller throw the wood shavings outward and disperse them onto the conveyor belt by centrifugal force (similar to a seeder).

 3. Thickness adjustment

The paving thickness is controlled by adjusting the rotational speed of the throwing roller, the speed of the conveyor belt or the height of the baffle.

Disadvantages: Poor orientation, only used for laying the core layer of ordinary particleboard

   1. Airflow suspension

The high-pressure fan blows the wood shavings into the diffusion chamber, with an air flow velocity of 5 to 20 m/s, causing the wood shavings to suspend and disperse.

   2. Hierarchical orientation

Shavings of different sizes naturally stratify due to weight differences:

Fine materials (light) are blown to the far end (surface layer), while coarse materials (heavy) fall nearby (core layer).

   3. Negative pressure adsorption

A negative pressure zone is set under the conveyor belt to absorb the wood shavings and prevent them from shifting, ensuring uniform laying

Advantages: Even laying, suitable for fine surface materials.

Disadvantages: High energy consumption and the need for a dust removal system

   1. Mechanical directional type

Swing arm pusher

The material-pushing teeth on the swinging arm move the wood shavings so that their long axis direction is consistent with the movement direction of the conveyor belt (longitudinal).

Vibrating screen guidance

The vibration of the screen automatically aligns the wood shavings when they fall (similar to the "chopsticks passing through a fence" effect).

  2. Electrostatic directional type

The wood shavings pass through a high-voltage electrostatic field (5 to 20 kV), and after being charged, they are arranged in a specific direction under the action of the electric field force (with high precision but expensive cost).

 3. Directional paving effect

The surface wood chips are arranged longitudinally → enhancing the longitudinal bending strength of the board.

The core layer wood shavings are arranged laterally → balancing the internal stress of the board
