OSB (Oriented Strand Board) is widely recognized as the fastest-growing, most dynamic, and most technologically mature type of board material in North America and Europe.
OSB is made by peeling the finely structured, straight-textured pine bark and cutting it along the wood grain into geometrically shaped planks (typically 40-120 mm long, 5-20 mm wide, and 0.40-0.60 mm thick). These planks are then dried, coated with a synthetic resin glue and waterproofing agent, and oriented to mimic the fiber alignment of natural wood. These planks are then laid into mats and hot-pressed at high temperatures to create a man-made structural board.
The upper and lower layers are symmetrical with respect to the center of the core layer, with the surface shavings arranged longitudinally and the core shavings arranged transversely. This overlapping, vertically staggered structure gives the finished product exceptional mechanical properties and dimensional stability, allowing it to withstand heavy loads for extended periods without deforming. The density, thickness, and strength of the board are uniform throughout, free of holes, hollows, knots, or cracks common in plywood.
