☆ | What is the OSB board? |
The full name of OSB is Oriented Strand Board, It is an engineering wood product made by gluing together multiple layers of wood chips (shavings) arranged in a directional manner under high temperature and high pressure.
The general size of OSB is 1220*2440mm /1250*2500MM, thickness is 6-25mm, if you have other size demands, we also can customize for you
☆ | The 8 Key OSB Production Steps |
For making OSB board, the whole production line need different machines, it mainly need 8 key equipment, let us see together
● First Step -Raw materials Prepare
-By Peeling machine to produce surface strands
-By wood chipper and disc chipper to produce core strands
● Second Step -Drying
The wet strands and wood chips with high moisture, it is not suitable for the next production step, so it is necessary to drying the raw materials by rotary drum dryer, as the production capacity, the dryer can be different diameter and length
● Third Step -Drum Screen
The raw materials strands and wood chips have different size, for ensure the size are suitable, it will screening the strands size, remove the oversize wood chips by drum screen
● Fourth Step -Glue Dosing and Appling System
Mix the wood shavings (wood chips) evenly with adhesives (such as phenolic resin, MDI glue, etc.) to ensure that each piece of wood shavings is fully glued, thereby guaranteeing the bonding strength and waterproof performance of the board
● Fifth Step -Mat Forming
Usually OSB adopts a three-layer structure (surface layer + core layer + surface layer), achieving high strength through the arrangement of wood shavings in different directions:
Surface wood shavings: Arranged along the length direction (longitudinal) of the board, providing bending strength.
Core layer wood shavings: Perpendicular to the surface layer, arranged along the width direction (transverse), enhancing shear resistance and dimensional stability.
Cross structure: Similar to the "orthogonal paving" of plywood, but using oriented strand instead of veneer, the cost is lower
● Sixth Step -Continuous Pre-press
The core value of initially compacting the loosely paved wood shavings layer to lay the foundation for hot pressing molding lies in:
Enhance the strength of the slab to prevent damage during transportation;
Optimize the hot pressing efficiency and reduce energy consumption;
Reduce sheet defects (such as delamination and bubbles)
● Seventh Step -Hot Press
Multi-Opening Hot press
Continuous Flat Press Line
The pre-pressed slab is solidified into the final slab through high temperature and high pressure. Its function is not limited to simple pressing. Instead, by precisely controlling temperature, pressure and time, the adhesive between the wood shavings is fully cured to form high-strength and high-stability oriented structural boards
You can see there are two different Press type, one is Multi-opening hot press, one is Single layer Continuous Press line, both press are suitable for different production capacity, when your required capacity is small or middle, the Multi-opening hot press is a better choice; When your production capacity is high then the continuous flat press will be a good chioce
● Edge cutting machine line
After Hot pressing, the panel will be cutted the edges as required size by the automatic edge cutting machine line, high efficiency and no need workers.
With above production step, you can produce the OSB board. As different Capacity, each equipment's specification can be different.
