The core configuration includes an efficient rotary lathe, roller-type dryer, simple glue spreader, cold pre-pressing system, multi-opening hot press, and essential sanding and cutting equipment. This line can be divided into four main sections: Raw Material Processing, Drying & Gluing, Pressing & Forming, and Finishing.


I. Raw Material Processing Section

1.  Spindle-type Rotary Lathe: A core machine that peels steamed soft logs into continuous veneers of consistent thickness. The entry-level model features reliable hydraulic/mechanical control.

2.  Veneer Roller Dryer: Dries the wet veneers to a moisture content of 8-12% for pressing. A 6 or 8-layer steam or hot air dryer offers the best value and stable performance.

      Associated Equipment: Hot air furnace.









II. Drying & Gluing Section

3.  Manual/Semi-automatic Glue Spreader: Applies adhesive (e.g., UF resin) evenly onto the veneer surfaces. A simple 4-roll spreader requires manual feeding but is low-cost and easy to maintain.










4.  Simple Lay-up Station: Manual area where workers assemble glued and unglued veneers into cross-oriented mats on steel tables.


III. Pressing & Forming Section

5.  Pre-press: Applies cold pressure to the mat for preliminary bonding, making it stable for transport to the hot press.

6.  Multi-opening Hot Press: The heart of the line. It applies heat and pressure to cure the adhesive and bond the plies. An entry-level press typically has 10-15 openings (steam or thermal oil heated) and is crucial for output. Automatic loaders and unloaders are essential for meeting this production target and reducing labor intensity.

      Associated Equipment: Thermal oil heater or boiler.








IV. Finishing Section

7.  Double-station Panel Saw: Cuts large panels into standard sizes (e.g., 4'x8'). The dual stations allow for continuous loading and unloading, providing sufficient efficiency for this capacity.

8.  2-Head Wide Belt Sander: Sands the top and bottom surfaces for thickness calibration and finishing. A two-head (coarse & fine) configuration meets basic requirements at a lower cost.










V. Auxiliary Systems


9.  Simple Cooling Rack: A steel structure for manually stacking and air-cooling hot panels to stabilize them.

10. Compressor, Water Pumps, Transformers, etc.: Provide essential utilities.


This production line achieves the 30,000 m³/year capacity (via single or double shifts) by integrating core machinery with semi-automation (manual assistance) and mechanization at critical stages (automatic hot press loading/unloading). It offers the best value by minimizing initial investment and operational complexity, making it an ideal entry-level solution.


What is Plywood?  


Plywood is an engineered wood panel product made by gluing three or more thin layers of wood veneer together with adhesive under high heat and pressure in a hot press. Its most fundamental structural characteristic is that the grain direction of adjacent veneer layers is perpendicular to each other. This cross-grained construction significantly overcomes the anisotropic shortcomings of solid wood, giving plywood superior strength, hardness, and dimensional stability compared to solid wood of the same thickness.

Brief Manufacturing Process  


1.  Log Processing: Selected logs are cut to length, debarked, and steamed to soften them.

2.  Peeling Veneer: The softened log sections are rotated against a blade on a lathe to peel them into continuous, uniformly thin veneers.

3.  Veneer Drying: The wet veneers are fed into a dryer to reduce their moisture content to a suitable level (typically 8%-12%).

4.  Gluing & Lay-up: Adhesive is spread evenly onto the veneer surfaces. The veneers are then assembled (laid up) with the grain of adjacent layers oriented perpendicularly.

5.  Cold Pre-pressing: The assembled mat is subjected to initial cold pressing to pre-form it for easier handling.

6.  Hot Pressing: The mat is loaded into a multi-opening hot press. Heat and pressure cure the adhesive, permanently bonding the veneers.

7.  Finishing: The pressed panels are trimmed, sanded, repaired if necessary, and finally graded, inspected, and packaged.


Classification & Grades  


Plywood can be classified in various ways, the most common are:


1. By Use and Water Resistance (Based on Adhesive Performance - Most Important Classification):

  Class I (NQF - Weather & Boil-Resistant Plywood): Uses Phenolic Resin (PF) glue. Offers excellent water, heat, and weather resistance, suitable for long-term outdoor use. Commonly used for concrete formwork and outdoor structures.

  Class II (NS - Water-Resistant Plywood): Uses Urea-Formaldehyde Resin (UF) glue. Has good water resistance and can withstand short-term cold water immersion. Often used for indoor humid environments like kitchen and bathroom furniture.

  Class III (NC - Moisture-Resistant Plywood): Uses blood glue or low-resin UF glue. Has poor moisture resistance and is only for use in dry indoor conditions. Commonly used for furniture backs, drawer bottoms, etc.

  Class IV (BNC - Non-Moisture-Resistant Plywood): Uses plant-based glues like bean glue. Not water or moisture resistant, now rare.


2. By Surface Material and Processing:

  Standard Plywood: Surface is the rotary-cut veneer.

  Overlaid Plywood / Decorative Plywood: Surface is covered with a decorative material, such as:

      Melamine Faced Plywood: Covered with melamine-impregnated paper, various patterns, scratch-resistant.

      Fire-Rated Board: Covered with fire-resistant mineral overlay, meeting standards like Class B1.

      Natural Wood Veneered Plywood: Veneered with precious species like walnut or oak for high-end furniture.

  Poplar Core, Eucalyptus Core, Mixed Hardwood Core Plywood: Refers to the wood species used for the core layers, affecting the panel's density and price.


Common Specifications & Sizes  


  Thickness: Common thicknesses include 3mm, 5mm, 9mm, 12mm, 15mm, 18mm, 25mm, etc.

  Dimensions (Length x Width): The most common size is 1220mm x 2440mm (4 feet x 8 feet). Other sizes like 915mm x 1830mm, 1525mm x 3050mm also exist.

  Number of Piles: Usually an odd number (3-ply, 5-ply, 7-ply, 9-ply, etc.) to ensure a symmetrical and stable structure.

  3. High Utilization Rate, Economical & Eco-friendly: Uses wood resources more efficiently, especially the core which can use fast-growing or smaller-diameter trees.

  4. Good Workability: Easy to process using sawing, nailing, planing, drilling, gluing, painting, etc.

Construction & Civil Engineering: Concrete formwork, interior decoration (ceilings, partitions, wainscoting, floor underlayment).

  Furniture Manufacturing: Primary material for cabinets, wardrobes, tables, bed bases, sofa frames, etc.

  Packaging & Transport: Export crates, pallets, shipping skids.

  Transportation: Ship bulkheads, train and vehicle interior panels, aircraft components.

  Others: Advertising boards, speaker boxes, DIY projects, etc.
