I. Working Principle
The multi-layer hot press adopts the flat-pressing method. After forming, the mats are fed into each layer of the hot press simultaneously via the loader. The hydraulic system drives the platens to close, applying pressure and heat to the mats. Under high temperature and high pressure, the adhesive on the particle surfaces melts, spreads, penetrates, and cures, firmly bonding the wood particles into a unified panel with specified strength and dimensions.
After the pressing cycle is completed, the press opens and the unloader synchronously withdraws the finished boards, completing one working cycle. The entire process is coordinated by a PLC control system, including mat loading, press closing, pressure holding, pressure release, press opening, and board unloading, achieving fully automatic continuous operation.
II. Core Structure
1. Frame System
Constructed with high-strength columns or multi-housing frame structures (4-column, 6-column, 8-column, or steel plate welded frames) featuring excellent rigidity and load-bearing capacity, capable of withstanding system pressures up to 3,600 tons. The frame design ensures long-term stability and reliability under high-load operating conditions.
2. Heated Platen System
The heated platens serve as both heat transfer devices and pressure distribution devices; their flatness and surface finish directly affect product quality. Manufactured from high-quality solid steel plates with a thickness of no less than 80–90mm, the platens offer excellent thermal capacity and mechanical rigidity. Platen dimensions can be customized according to customer requirements to accommodate large-format panel production.
3. Hydraulic System
Multi-cylinder bottom-drive configuration, equipped with high-pressure oil pumps (25–35 MPa) and synchronized cylinders, ensures precise simultaneous movement of all platens. Proportional valves precisely control the pressure curve (ramping-holding-decompression), ensuring stable pressing quality.
4. Simultaneous Closing Device
This is a key technology for multi-layer hot presses. In multi-layer presses, platens close from the bottom upward sequentially; lower mats are heated under non-high-pressure conditions for longer periods, which may cause premature curing of adhesive on lower layers, resulting in inconsistent product quality across layers. The simultaneous closing device ensures all platens contact the mats at the same time, providing identical heating and pressure conditions across all layers while compensating for thickness variations between mats.
5. Loading and Unloading System
Equipped with caulless loaders and unloaders, the system can feed multiple mats into the press simultaneously and withdraw finished boards synchronously. The loader/unloader works in precise coordination with the press cycle, significantly improving production efficiency and reducing labor costs.
6. Heating System
Thermal oil or steam heating can be employed, with circulation channels inside the platens ensuring uniform surface temperature distribution (inter-layer temperature difference ≤ ±3°C). High-precision temperature control allows temperature curves to be set according to specific process requirements.
III. Technical Advantages
1. Ultra-High Production Efficiency
The multi-layer structure enables simultaneous production of multiple panels in a single pressing cycle, with daily output reaching 220–500 m³, far exceeding that of single-layer presses. A 20-opening press can produce 19 standard panels per cycle, with daily output exceeding 1,000 m³.
2. Excellent Product Quality
The simultaneous closing device ensures identical thermal history across all layers, resulting in minimal thickness tolerance and high surface flatness, effectively reducing sanding allowance. Pressure compensation mechanisms achieve board thickness accuracy within ±0.2mm.
3. Fully Automatic Operation
PLC + touchscreen control system integrates closed-loop control of temperature, pressure, and time, automatically recording and adjusting process parameters, reducing manual intervention and ensuring batch-to-batch consistency.
4. Energy Efficient & Environmentally Friendly
Waste heat recovery systems can reduce steam consumption by 30%. When paired with biomass boilers, sander dust can replace coal, significantly reducing overall energy consumption.
5. Broad Raw Material Adaptability
Can utilize wood processing residues, branches, and other biomass materials as raw materials, achieving comprehensive resource utilization.
