Working Principle 


The equipment mainly consists of a drying drum, a hot air furnace (or connection to a central energy plant), feeding and discharging devices, and a transmission system. Wet flakes are fed into the rotating drum. Driven by the drum's rotation and the internal lifting flights, the material is evenly dispersed and fully contacts the high-temperature hot gas (typically flue gas). Rapid dewatering is achieved through intense convective heat exchange. The dried material is pneumatically conveyed to a cyclone for separation, while a portion of the exhaust gas is recirculated after dedusting to recover waste heat .

Product Description


Heating System

The heating system is the heat source core of the dryer, typically utilizing a biomass hot air furnace or connecting to the plant's central energy center. The biomass furnace can use bark, sanding dust, waste flakes, etc., as fuel to generate clean high-temperature flue gas. The system includes an automatic feeding burner, combustion chamber, mixing chamber, and temperature adjustment device, which precisely controls the temperature of the hot air entering the drum (usually between 160°C and 220°C) to ensure drying efficiency while preventing material overheating and fire.


Feeding System

The feeding system is responsible for feeding wet flakes evenly and continuously into the drying drum. It mainly consists of a screw conveyor, rotary valve, or belt conveyor, equipped with a variable frequency drive motor for flexible adjustment of the feed rate according to production line needs. To prevent outside air from entering the drum and disrupting the thermal balance, an air lock device (such as a double-stage flap valve) is usually installed at the feed inlet.


Drying Drum Main Body

The drying drum is a large rotating cylinder and the main chamber where heat exchange between the material and hot air takes place. Based on the structural type, it can be classified as a single-pass dryer or a three-pass dryer. Inside the drum, lifting flights are welded at specific angles and arrangements. Their function is to continuously lift and cascade the flakes, forming a "material curtain" that ensures full contact between the material and the hot air, accelerating moisture evaporation. The drum is supported externally by riding rings and support rollers, and is driven by the transmission system. The drum is made of heat-resistant and wear-resistant steel to ensure longevity under prolonged high-temperature operation.



Transmission System

The transmission system provides power for the drum rotation. It mainly consists of an electric motor, reducer, pinion, and girth gear. The motor power, after reduction and torque increase by the reducer, is transmitted through the pinion meshing with the girth gear fixed on the drum, driving the drum to rotate smoothly at a set speed (typically 2-8 rpm). Some large dryers are also equipped with an auxiliary drive (backup motor) for inching or maintenance during power outages.


Discharging & Dust Collection System

The dried flakes are discharged from the end of the drum along with the hot air and first enter a cyclone separator. Under centrifugal force, heavier material particles settle and are discharged through a discharger (usually equipped with an air lock valve), while the cleaner exhaust gas is drawn into subsequent dust collection equipment. To meet environmental emission standards, a baghouse filter or wet scrubber is typically connected in series to efficiently capture fine dust. Finally, the clean air is drawn by an induced draft fan and sent to the chimney for emission.


Control System

The control system utilizes a PLC (Programmable Logic Controller) and an HMI (Human-Machine Interface) touch screen to achieve centralized monitoring and automated operation of the entire machine. Key parameters such as feed rate, drum speed, temperatures at various sections, motor current, and exhaust gas humidity are displayed in real time. The system features automatic adjustment functions (e.g., automatically adjusting the feed rate or hot air temperature based on the outlet moisture content) and is equipped with safety features such as over-temperature alarms, motor overload protection, and fault self-diagnosis, ensuring efficient and safe dryer operation.


Insulation & Sealing System

To minimize heat loss and improve thermal efficiency, the drying drum surface is wrapped with an insulation layer (e.g., rock wool plus galvanized sheet metal). Simultaneously, high-performance sealing devices (such as labyrinth seals, graphite packing seals, etc.) are installed at the connection points between the rotating drum and the stationary inlet/outlet boxes. These effectively prevent cold air infiltration and hot air leakage, maintaining a stable negative pressure within the system.

    Large Unit Capacity: Various models are available, with capacities ranging from 7 t/h to 35 t/h (bone dry basis) to meet the demands of different production line scales .

    Automated Operation: Equipped with an advanced electrical control system for real-time monitoring of temperature, pressure, and motor status, enabling automated control of feeding, drying, and discharging processes, thus saving labor.
